Dr Andrea Matsumura, also known as the Sleep Goddess MD is an internationally recognized sleep and menopause expert, board-certified in both Internal and Sleep Medicine. As the creator of the D.R.E.A.M. Sleep Method™ and the Sleep Goddess Archetype™, she’s redefining how women understand and optimize their natural rhythms for better sleep and long-term health. 

Dr. Matsumura trained at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed her Internal Medicine residency in Portland, Oregon, where she spent 13 years practicing primary care before pursuing a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University. She later became a partner at The Oregon Clinic, and during her tenure there she recognized how profoundly overlooked and misunderstood sleep disruption was for women across every stage of life. In her clinical work, women often sat across from her in tears as they finally connected the dots between their sleep struggles and menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum change, and the menopause transition. Witnessing the relief and transformation that followed inspired her to deepen her expertise and become certified in menopause care through The Menopause Society, advancing a more complete and science-based understanding of women’s health.


Through her clinical leadership, research translation, and ability to communicate complex science with clarity and impact, she has become the leading expert in sleep and women’s health and a highly sought after public speaker, consultant, and educator. Dr. Matsumura is recognized internationally for elevating sleep as the essential pillar of women’s midlife wellbeing and for reshaping public and professional understanding of what is possible when women reclaim restorative sleep.

In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Matsumura is an active leader in healthcare advocacy and public policy through her work with the Oregon Medical Association, where she supports initiatives that advance patient health and strengthen the future of medicine. She is also a longtime contributor to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and has held multiple leadership roles within the organization, helping shape national priorities in sleep research, education, and clinical standards. Her commitment extends beyond clinical practice to elevating the role of sleep within broader health systems and public understanding.

Dr. Matsumura is passionate about elevating inclusive conversations around menopause and sleep, blending science, soul, and strategy to help women step into midlife with confidence, clarity, and rest. She speaks regularly on women’s health and medical podcasts, and is an event conference speaker. She has been tapped as a leading sleep expert in the New York Times, SHAPE and SELF magazines, and CNN Underscored.
